Vioxx Linked to Heart Disease and Cerebrovascular Complications

In the Federal Government’s Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee October bulletin, updated warnings regarding arthritis drugs Vioxx and Celebrex were included. The Vioxx and Celebrex warnings indicated a possible increased risk of heart disease and cerebrovascular complications. There was also inconclusive evidence of an association between Vioxx and cardiovascular events but the warning stated Vioxx should not be prescribed above the maximum approved dose and doctors should consider the Vioxx patient’s cardiovascular risk before prescribing the medication.
